Core Strategy
In October 2011, Lewes District Council (LDC) issued a Draft Core Strategy for development in the District up to 2030. Coupled with this is a document known as the Strategic Housing and Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). A further explanation of these two important documents can be found below. The former was consulted on across the District including an event at Plumpton Village Hall and subsequent to this LDC have been reviewing the feedback and are preparing a revised version of the document ready for a further period of consultation in November 2012.
At the Parish Council meeting on 11 September 2012, our District Councillor, Sarah Osbourne advised that in her capacity as Chair of the Scrutiny Committee she learnt that Plumpton is earmarked for 50 dwellings up to 2030 as part of the revised Core Strategy Proposal due to be published in October 2012. This proposal carries two important caveats (1) there remains a period of further consultation where new evidence can be submitted which could result in this number being increased or decreased; and (2) if other parishes fall short on delivering their targets Plumpton might have to pick them up.
Once the revised document is received, we will make it available through the Parish Council website and if necessary facilitate the necessary consultation. Thereafter, specific sites will be allocated either through a neighbourhood plan or through a LDC driven site allocation plan.
ANNEX 1: THE DRAFT CORE STRATEGY
The Draft Core Strategy outlines how LDC intend to meet the housing needs of the district. The last formal draft of October 2011 proposed Plumpton Green as a suitable location for a minimum of 34 and a maximum of 104 new dwellings, whilst also highlighting a need to further upgrade the rail service and explore traffic calming measures / reduced speed limits to manage the traffic impacts. The Draft Core Strategy can be viewed at Lewes District Council's website: Core Strategy.
ANNEX 2: THE SHLAA
The SHLAA outlines potential sites where these dwellings could be accommodated. The sites are evaluated based on a criteria of their Availability (i.e. the land owner is willing to sell), Suitability (i.e. proximity to public transport, schools etc) and Achievability (i.e. can it be developed at a sensible cost). A copy of the updated SHLAA can be found under Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).Documents and Links
