Parish Council Planning Application Process
Planning applications need to be made to Lewes District Council directly. Once received, Lewes will provide copies to Plumpton Parish Council and invite feedback on any concerns together with a position on whether the Parish Council is "Supportive" or "Not Supportive" of the application. To do this, either the usual monthly Parish Council meetings are used or a Planning Committee meeting called. Both meetings are advertised on the website and on the four Parish Council notice boards around the village. The applications are also viewable on the Lewes District Council website (http://www.lewes.gov.uk/planning/1139.asp ). The applicant will be notified by letter a few days in advance of the meeting where-ever possible, although applicants are encouraged to keep an eye on the notice-boards and website just in case. If a site visit is deemed necessary, then the Chair of the Planning Committee will arrange this with the applicant. Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting and provide comments to the Councillors present.
The meeting must be attended by at three Parish Councillors. Any Councillor with a declared interest (such as being a neighbouring property or being a close friend of the applicant) is not eligible to vote. At the meeting, the Chair will share the applications and invite comments from the other Councillors and members of the the public. Councillors have a number of things they are looking for with each application, including whether it detriments neighbouring properties or is seen to be against the village interest. Having reviewed the application and noted any comments, a vote will be taken as to whether to "support" or "not support" the application". This, together with the minutes is then put on the website.
Although the comments from the Parish Council are considered carefully by Lewes District Council (LDC), it is LDC who have the final say.
