Core Strategy Meetings and Minutes
Lewes District Council (LDC) have now issued Draft Core Strategy for development in the District. Coupled with this is an updated version of the Strategic Housing and Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).
To explain the two documents -
Th Draft Core Strategy outlines how LDC intend to meet the housing needs of the district. This proposes Plumpton Green as a suitable location for a minimum of 34 and a maximum of 104 new dwellings, whilst also highlighting a need to further upgrade the rail service and explore traffic calming measures / reduced speed limits to manage the traffic impacts. This document will now enter a period of public consultation which closes on the 11th November.
The Draft Core Strategy can be viewed at Lewes District Concil's website: Core Strategy. Once the consultation period is complete, the comments will be considered and this is likely to form planning policy.
Th SHLAA outlines potential sites where these dwellings could be accommodated. The sites are evaluated based on a criteria of their Availability (i.e. the land owner is willing to sell), Suitability (i.e. proximity to public transport, schools etc) and Achievablity (i.e. can be developed at a sensible cost). A copy of the updated SHLAA can be found under Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). You may recall the previous SHLAA of 2010 identified four sites in the village as meeting all three of the criteria. This has now increased to five sites, with one dropping out and two new sites being added. The total estimated capacity across these sites is 126 dwellings. The five sites comprise 04PL (The land behind the Church - Yield 30), 05PL (The land behind Premier Garage - Yield 30), 08PL (The land between Westgate and Chapel Road - Yield 40), 09PL (West of Riddens Close - Yield 6), 10PL (Noland Farm - Yield 20). Site 06PL (White House Farm has been withdrawn). Another 7 sites did not meet the criteria. The SHLAA will now be updated every year with the potential to add new sites as they become available.
