Budget
In setting its budget, Council has a view to the duties it has to perform, the facilities it owns and operates, the staff it employs and other matters such as loan repayments and interest. Plumpton Parish Council now budgets on an annual basis, from April to March and forecasts for a further two years beyond that. This allows the Council to spread the cost of major works and to even out the highs and lows of any estimated income and expenditure.
The net deficit in the annual budget is the level at which Council sets the Precept. Collection of the precept is carried out through the council tax levied by Lewes District Council and is paid to the Council in two instalments.
Throughout the year, the Council monitors its income and expenditure against the budget it sets.
